Children’s Book Designed to Help Prevent Child Abuse

“Everyone’s Got a Bottom,” a children’s book, provides parents and carers with an important tool to engage in open and age-appropriate conversations about child safety and body protection in light of recent tragic news of a Gold Coast man accused of child offences. The book, written by Tess Rowley and drawn by Jodi Edwards, is intended to give communities and families the tools they need to protect children from harm.

The recent news story about charges brought against a former childcare provider for 1,623 child abuse offences against 91 children emphasises how urgent it is to address the problem of child abuse and take preventative steps to safeguard our children. It is everyone’s obligation as parents, guardians, and educators to provide kids with the information and awareness they need to keep safe in a variety of circumstances.

“Everyone’s got a bottom” takes a kid-friendly, upbeat, and educational stance on this touchy subject. It emphasises the use of proper anatomical terminology for bodily parts and offers illustrations of when to say “no,” when to speak with an adult you can trust, and when to keep your privacy. The book is a great way to start a dialogue with kids about personal boundaries and bodily safety, gently guiding parents and other adults.

The book “Everyone’s got a bottom” by Tess Rowley and Jodi Edwards has sold over 50,000 copies and is regarded as one of the top 10 child safety publications, demonstrating the collaboration’s broad success. The book is a recommended child safety resource for the Department of Education Queensland and the Daniel Morcombe Child Safety Curriculum, and its influence has been acknowledged through its Child Protection Week award for child safety projects.

According to Tess Rowley, the book’s author, “We believe that empowering children with the knowledge of their bodies and personal boundaries is a critical step in preventing child abuse.” “We hope to equip families with the tools they need to keep their children safe by using correct anatomical terms and providing a safe space for children to express themselves,” the authors write.

The book’s illustrator, Jodi Edwards, said, “You’ll find lovely elements that engage young readers throughout the book, such the main character’s changing hat and the cunning Soxy the cat hidden on every page. My images are intended to pique children’s interest and spark meaningful dialogue.

The authors of “Everyone’s got a bottom” are aware of how upsetting recent news might be and how it may affect abuse victims and their loved ones. Their book aspires to be a part of a larger initiative to promote children’s safety and to create an atmosphere where kids feel comfortable talking about their bodies and are supported in doing so. Tess Rowley declared, “Children are our most valuable assets, and protecting their innocence and well-being is of the utmost importance.” “Everyone’s got a bottom” is intended to promote awareness, transparency, and prevention in homes and communities, the authors write.

The book is already available for purchase on the official website, http://www.everyonesgotabottom.com, and will soon also be made accessible internationally as an eBook.
